Security visibility people can actually use

A few anonymized notes from teams using PortWarden to keep an eye on public-facing systems.

PortWarden turned exposure monitoring into something we actually check, not something we remember once a quarter. It tells us what changed and what needs attention without making us dig through scanner noise.

While working with PortWarden developing virtual security engineers for their platform we were invited to actually use their system. Although we already have managed security, we went ahead and added our IP assets to their portal, just to try out their system. We were quite suprised to an extra SSH service port open to the public on our Gitea server, one apparently opened by one of our own AI Agents.

Specific outcome
  • Caught unexpected exposed SSH.

The best part is that it gives our team something practical to do next. We get the finding, the evidence, and enough context to decide whether to fix it now or schedule it properly.

In an industry with some rather sketchy competitors we often find ourselves the intended victim of exploit attempts. As we can't justify the budget for a full security team or managed solution, we've found it necessary to scan our networks regularly, and to fix issues as quickly as possible. With PortWarden, we are now scanning daily and getting notifications, so we no longer have to budget the time to scan manually.

Specific outcome
  • Reduced weekly manual checking.

When we push changes, we need to know quickly if something unexpected is exposed. PortWarden gives us that gut check, and the on-demand scans are useful when we want to verify a fix.

As a software engineering and development company we typically build and deploy a large number of servers on the regular basis. When we pick up something weird on a scan that used to leads to hours of internet searching or an expensive call to a security engineer. Now we can simply query the PortWarden AI security agent, and find out exactly how serious any discoveries are, before spending money on calling in a security engineer.

Specific outcome
  • Helped validate remediation.

IT Coordinator

We do not have a full security team, so we needed something clear. PortWarden helped us see what was public, clean up the obvious problems, and keep watching for anything new.

We're a non-profit organization with a singular focus on criminal justice reform. Not only do we not have an IT department, we don't even have an IT guy. But with PortWarden we've been able to setup, manage, and regularly scan all our servers. We believe this is the best solution, for the most security, for the least money possible.

Specific outcome
  • Saved money and increasing security.
